Katie Slywka

Speech Language Therapist
Brief info

Hello! My name is Katie Slywka. I was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and I grew up in an energetic and active household with my parents and two younger sisters. I was heavily involved in athletics, my favorite sports being lacrosse, field hockey, and swimming. Through interactions with my parents, siblings, friends, and teammates, the importance of communication and how we use language to deliver and interpret messages became increasingly evident. When exploring potential fields of study, speech-language pathology stood out, as it encompasses these crucial aspects of the human experience while exploring a wide variety of additional factors that impact everyday interactions.

These interests led me to Butler University (Go Dawgs!), where I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Communication Sciences and Disorders, with a minor in Diverse Learners. Following my graduation from Butler University, I made the short journey to Indiana University, where I completed my Master of Arts in Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences.

During my time at Butler University and Indiana University, I gained clinical experience working with a variety of pediatric and adult clients whose treatment varied from speech and language and social pragmatics to voice, swallowing and feeding, and cognitive rehabilitation. I completed my externships at Noblesville Public Schools and Hendricks Regional Health Hospital in Danville. At these locations, I conducted evaluations and provided skilled therapy to children aged 3-18 with individual education plans and speech intervention programs. I also evaluated and treated adults in both inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation settings.

As a speech-language pathologist, I am passionate about empowering individuals to express themselves fully and make meaningful connections with others.

When I’m not at the clinic, I enjoy spending time outside with friends, family, and my dog, Pretzel. I enjoy listening to music, attending concerts and sporting events, reading, and traveling.
